This Year's Theme
Weaving Cultural Threads
The threads of diversity around the globe define a key characteristic of humanity, identity. It is contradictory to think that the things which set us apart are ultimately what unites us, but humanity grows through the different perspectives embraced worldwide. These differences are generalized through culture, where common practices differ from region to region across the globe. It is the past customs and traditions which modern society is built upon, as the springs of heritage pour the waters of identity; “تراثنا منبع هويتنا”. Living in a society characterized by its people’s identity, the unique role that everyone plays stitches the gaps in the fabric of the community. This is why BAYMUN’s theme “Weaving cultural threads” plays a crucial role in appreciating all our ancestors left behind to innovate a better society. Throughout this conference, BAYMUN XVII delegates will understand the importance of preserving the culture passed down by our ancestors in creating an identity for oneself. They will discuss strategies to preserve cultures prone to being lost, to save the identities of those who need one the most. Delegates will be responsible for safeguarding the overlooked facts of history while embracing their culture and harnessing their identity simultaneously. At BAYMUN XVII, we will promote togetherness through the heritage and culture that binds the international community together.
BayMUN is a model of how global issues are discussed and handled in the United Nations. It urges delegates to learn diplomacy and international relationship through an educational experience. BayMUN as an MUN has been affiliated by THIMUN since 2013 and was the first school in Bahrain to receive such an honorable affiliation.
Bahrain Bayan School is a bilingual national school founded by the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Dr. May Bint Sulaiman Al Otaibi, and Mrs. Kathleen Acher Kaiksow in 1982, KG1 through Grade 12, serving the Arab Bahraini community. The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) conference, which includes over 3500 participants, coming from around 200 schools and 100 countries, although it is not located near the United Nations Headquarters in New York, it is one of the pioneer model United Nations conferences in the world, since it has been founded in 1968 and located in the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) world city of the Hague. A whole network of conferences is marked by its THIMUN affiliation, a label which basically describes the universality of the procedures that rule the conference, and make it part of the UN recognized foundation. In 1995, the THIMUN Foundation was accredited as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information. Additionally, THIMUN has established its own conferences’ network throughout time: THIMUN Qatar, THIMUN Singapore, THIMUN Online MUN (O-MUN) and THIMUN Latin America conferences have been set up from 2005.
